Jon Neal just sent in an amd64 debian package that works. Code was uploaded to SVN and tested. Once I get x86 binaries compiled I will upload both of those to the site and post an update when they are ready. But for now I want to congratulate Jon for completing the first GfxHax bug bounty.

Ok, one of the reasons we have not posted in a while is that life has caught up with us and restricted our time greatly. This is really unfortunate because we have several things that were reaching release. One of those things is a debian package for the DrinkDuino Game. This is the game interface for the DrinkShield. We have the debian folder mostly setup. You can build a debian package with debian/rules binary, but the data directory isn’t included. I’m sure it’s just a configuration thing but I currently don’t have time to look into it. This is why we are calling for a bug bounty!
This is soooo close to finished! We are placing a $50 bounty on the first person to fix this bug. If you want to participate goto drinkshield.googlecode.com and download the SVN version of drinkduinogame. If you don’t have a drink shield you can still participate. Simply use the -e flag for the game (-e will emulate a drink shield). The game should load and function fine in this mode.

After having a great time with our first demo at OLF we decided we really needed leaderboards to show off everyones scores. So I put together a small PHP leaderboard app that can read the DB From the DrinkDuino Game as well as a script to convert the images to something a little more web-friendly. The end result is a quick and simple leaderboard system.
Check out the OLF Leaderboads (and yes, the 1st place went to a bottle of hand sanitizer….don’t ask)
And you can download the source to use for your own event. The next version of DrinkDuino will probably have an event system such as “Tawnya’s Party” or “OLF” etc. For now you have to edit the index.php for your event title.

GfxHax will be at the Ohio Linux Fest in Columbus, this Saturday (Sept 11th). We are sharing a vendor table with DualCore and I plan on bringing all the stuff I have from our online store. I will have plenty of Drink Shield kits and will bring the newest alpha release of the DrinkDuino Game (complete with webcam support!!) We will also attempt to smuggle in some drinks for … uh, product testing.

GfxHax now carries the Diavolino boards (aka. little devil kits) from Evil Mad Science. These are small, cost-effective Arduino clones. GfxHax offers a power kit for the Diavolino boards, specifically designed for optimal performance with the Drink Shields. If you’d like, you can add a DC Jack kit with an enhanced voltage regulator and a 4xAAA battery pack to provide 6 volts to the kit. The battery pack fits perfectly under the Diavolino boards. If you want to make the DrinkShield portable without breaking the bank, this the the way to go.
I posted my first thing on Thingiverse!! This is a DrinkShield straw holder. Turns out when people drink several of them like to put their lips on the MQ-3 sensor…which is a bit hot, since it’s a heater. So I created this free straw holder in OpenScad! You can download all the plans and the STL file from Thingiverse.
The straw is optional and you will probably have to hit your local hackerspace to use their makerbot to print it out…but hey, it’s free! :)

Ok, the phpBB forum is up and running. It’s still ugly but it should be functional. I believe I have wordpress login integration working. So if you have an account with the blog it should create an account automatically for you in phpBB. Eventually I will create a full style to support complete integration but for now it should work. Please post any topic ideas and suggestions in the forum or as comments to this post.

DrinkShield Board Layout
I’ve added the Eagle source files for both the board and schematic to Google Code for the DrinkShield. I also uploaded the uber-alpha version of the
DrinkDuino Game. It is playable but a lot of graphics still need to be worked on and I don’t have webcam support added yet. But if you can’t wait to start playing go ahead and check it out. Don’t forget you can also code your own apps! Checkout the Coding Reference to get started.
I am also working on setting up a phpbb forum to discuss new designs, game updates, etc. I want to tie it into wordpress and skin it at least a bit. So it may take a little longer but I will post an update once it is live.

Drink Shield
The Store is now officially opened. Hopefully everything is working properly! We also have DrinkSheilds!! You can buy those as well as some other supplies in the store. Also if you stop by the Cincinnati Hackerspace Hive13 when I’m there I can sell you one as well. I also plan on being at the Ohio Linux Fest and will be sharing a table with DualCore. I will have Drink Shields and Hive13 T-shirts on sale at the vendor table.
