Q: What type of items can I sell on GfxHax?
A: You can sell anything that falls under the Open-Source Hardware requirements. Standards are still be flushed out but in essence if your device, or artwork needs to be fully released. For Hardware this means that the schematics, circuit design, firmware and any software that goes with it needs to be open. No proprietary connectors. For art, you need to release the original files, not just the end result rendered image but what it took to get there. Like a blender or 3D file or the original adobe file.
Q: What is open source hardware?
A: As of this writing a standard is being finalized but a good description of Open-Source Hardware is on Wikipedia. For most things you can go with the Creative Commons License or the GPL for software.
Q: How do I sign up as a Maker to sell my own things?
A: At the moment the Maker section is open only for private beta. The website will be updated when this status changes.
Q: I built one item that is rather unique and I don’t think I’ll make more. Can I sell just that one item?
A: Yes. When you create your Maker account you can then sell individual pieces or have a stock of items. As long as your individual piece follows the Open Source licensing requirements of this site.
